About BIcentennial Park
Miami is best known for its beautiful beaches, neon buildings and abundance of nightlife. What most tourists don't know about Miami is that there is a 30-acre area in downtown that acts as a mixture between an oasis and an action-packed activity center. This location is Bicentennial Park, which got its name from being built in 1976 – America's 200th birthday.
The reason Bicentennial Park can be described as an oasis and an action-packed activity center is because the inside of the park is peaceful and quiet and the perimeter of the park is filled with different activities and interesting sites. Anyone who wants to kick back on a park bench, read a book and enjoy the fresh air will find the inside of the park more appealing. Those interested in being more active will find the perimeter of the park more appealing. Activities and sites here include the Bayside Marketplace, the American Airlines Arena, boat tours, Biscayne Bay, the Metrover, the Miami Herald headquarters and more.
While the above information is accurate 90% of the time, the interior of the park does become the setting for rock concerts and music festivals several times per year. This makes sense considering the park can hold up to 45,000 people and the weather is almost always perfect.
Construction is currently being done to add the Miami Art Museum and the Miami Science Museum to the park. This will not only change the landscape of the park, but the name as well. Once construction is complete, Bicentennial Park will become Museum Park. Other Attractions include Miami Airport, Miami Beach, Port of Miami, and South Beach.
